Your first case, step by step

Open a case file, let the chamber work it, approve the strategy, then check and sign off the draft.

Everything in Wakeelnama hangs off a case file. Here is the whole path from papers to a signed-off draft.

  1. Go to Cases and choose New case. Upload the papers (PDFs, Word files, photos of documents, up to 15 files of 20 MB each) or write a few lines about the matter in your own words, in English or Urdu. Court and side are optional. Voice notes can be attached to the file but are not transcribed yet.
  2. Leave "Start the chamber straight away" ticked, or start it later from the case. Ahlmad files the papers and the chamber gets to work. You can close the tab; the run carries on and the case shows where it reached.
  3. Cards land on the case board: facts, issues, authorities, arguments for and against, evidence needed and the questions from the bench. Pin the cards you agree with and reject the ones you do not. Answer the Munshi’s questions on the board.
  4. When Senior Counsel has a strategy, the run stops and waits for you. Read the board, pick the form you want (for example a post-arrest bail application) and choose "Approve and draft". Rejected arguments are left out of the draft.
  5. The Drafter writes the draft in court form and the Checker checks every citation in it. Open the draft from the case, edit any paragraph, and read the Checker’s report.
  6. When you are satisfied, choose Sign off. Download it as a Word file, or print it on legal paper.

Nothing is drafted until you approve, and nothing is filed by Wakeelnama. You remain counsel for everything that goes to court.
